Currently in hiatus

Gelantipy & District Historical Society was formed in 1973 and incorporates the Suggan Buggan Schoolhouse Rescue group, which was established in 1978 to restore and preserve this icon of the area’s history.

The group’s dedicated band of volunteers has taken on a variety of projects, including restoration of the O’Rourke headstones at the Buchan cemetery and clearing up around the O’Rourke graves at Black Mountain station.

The group has also undertaken on the preservation of the old burial ground at Butchers Ridge and was actively involved in the McKillop’s Bridge 70th anniversary celebrations.
